What is Build4?

Welcome to Build4, one of two UK Sustainable Construction Demonstration Centres (and one of many centres across North West Europe) made available through the Interreg funded CAP’EM project.  Build4 is a dynamic and creative space located in Dover, Kent in a new industrial unit. The unit is fitted-out completely with eco-materials so that the wide audience that CAP’EM attracts can come along inside to see the materials in situ and on display. Build4 has the capacity to host small events/meetings/training/seminars free of charge, and we are encouraging manufacturers and innovators of eco-materials to utilise the space for focus groups, exhibition purposes, and training in the use of the materials.

Build4 works closely with the Dover Christ Church Academy which is located next door. This offers a brilliant opportunity for students of the construction trades to train on the materials that will be part of their working life. It offers them a competitive advantage over those students still only training on conventional building materials.

What is CAP’EM?

CAP’EM stands for Cycle Assessment Procedure for Eco-Materials. It is an EU funded project (Interreg IVB) designed to provide a robust assessment methodology for eco-materials in the construction industry. The basis of CAP’EM’s methodology is the Life Cycle Analysis and companies wishing to have their material assessed by CAP’EM will be listed on its comprehensive searchable web-database.  Through the CAP’EM project, demonstration centres will be developed across the partner countries (UK , France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany) to showcase construction eco-materials to those that use them, including builders, designers, students and DIY-ers.
